Post 7 of the 7-day blog series
Living out what we believe, one small step at a time
Blog Series: Faith in the Everyday – Growing a Christ-Centered Home
Over the past six posts, we’ve walked through how to weave faith into the heartbeat of our homes — not as something we force, or layer on top, or perform — but as something that grows naturally through love, presence, practice, and grace.
We’ve talked about:
Seeing everyday moments as sacred
Making faith joyful and engaging for children
Teaching our kids to pray with honesty and openness
Disciplining in a way that shapes the heart, not just behavior
Establishing rhythms that help anchor our days in Christ
Creating a home atmosphere that reflects the character of Jesus
And now we arrive at the most important truth of all:
You don’t have to do all of this at once.
You don’t even have to do most of it.
You only have to begin — gently, slowly, faithfully — with one small thing.
Spiritual formation does not happen in one big moment of effort.
It happens in a thousand tiny steps over many ordinary days.
So instead of asking, “How do I change everything?”
Pray for God’s guidance on how to move forward.
“Lord, what one change would You have me begin with?”
Reflection Questions
After praying for God’s guidance, take a quiet moment and ask yourself:
Which part of our family life currently feels hurried, disconnected, or dry?
Where do I sense God gently inviting us to slow down or pay attention?
What is one simple habit we could begin this week?
A prayer before meals
A blessing spoken at bedtime
Lighting a candle and reading one Psalm together on Sunday afternoons
Singing a worship song on the way to school
How can I choose consistency over intensity?
Choose a habit that you can be consistent with, no matter how small.
If it is a fight or struggle every day and you just can’t get it to stick, choose a different habit!
Write your answer down — or simply hold it quietly before the Lord.
Your One Small Step This Week
Choose one practice.
Just one.
Make it small enough to succeed, even on a tired day.
And don’t measure success by how perfectly it goes —
Measure it by the love that motivates it.
And when that one habit has taken root, add another.
What is the one small habit you want to begin this week?
Will you send me a text or email letting me know what you’re going to begin this week?
I’d love to cheer you on, pray with you, and celebrate what God is forming in your home.
You are not doing this alone.
We are walking this road together, friend!
How else can I support you as you begin?

Lord Jesus,
Thank You for being present with us in every ordinary moment.
Thank You for the children You’ve entrusted to our care,
for the homes we are shaping, and for Your gentle work in our hearts.
Make us mothers who walk slowly, speak kindly,
and choose presence over perfection. Teach us to lead with love,
to discipline with patience, to pray with honesty,
and to trust You with every outcome.
Let our homes reflect who You are —
not through flawless routines, but through the steady, imperfect, faithful love
that grows from being near You.
Shape us to be more like You as we shepherd the hearts we love.
One moment. One day. One small habit at a time.
Amen.
